Bolero is a standard format video produced in 2014 based on a found footage from YouTube; a performance by the Romanian mastero Sergiu Celibdache conducting the classic orchestral piece in 1971 with the Danish National Symphony Orchestra by Maurice Ravel - Bolero.
The video demonstrates the artists using his own voice to mimic different orchestral instruments that formed an impression of the original classical music - an audio remixing technique that was mostly used for dubbing subtitles. The remixed audio is synchronised and performed together with the visual of the passionate and charismatic performance by Sergiu Celibidache. The synchronisation creates an illusion to the viewer as if the conductor and the artist are performing together within the same physical space through the use of post production technologies.
Instead of paying homage to the conductor or the orchestral music. The video act as a personal respond of the artist’s desire to perform together with charismatic figure (the conductor) that are no longer alive but still exist within the realm of visual reality. Like a fan singing in a karaoke.
