This is the story of one woman's crusade against food waste...
Ronni Kahn used to be a contributor to Australia’s annual $20 billion food waste bill when she ran a successful corporate events company producing million-dollar dinners.
Then she realised the absurdity of throwing away perfectly edible food and traded capitalism for social activism in 2004 by founding OzHarvest, a food rescue charity.
Now, she’s taking on politicians and big business to expose an inconvenient truth: that four million tonnes of edible food is discarded in Australia every year while up to two million Aussies suffer from food insecurity. And to add insult to injury, this food waste ends up in landfill, harming the environment by creating greenhouse gas emissions.
Filmed over two years and across four continents, ‘Food Fighter’ follows Ronni’s crusade as she partners with the United Nations, rubs shoulders with royalty and Jamie Oliver’s juggernaut, rifles through dumpster bins and holds government to account.
From the recent death of her daughter-in law to the very recent birth of her first grandchild, Ronni’s personal rollercoaster runs parallel to her meteoric rise as the face of food waste.
Conceding she lacked the “courage” to stay and fight the Apartheid regime in her mother country, ‘Food Fighter’ also follows Ronni’s road to redemption, an inspirational woman bidding to make peace with her past.
In the end, it reveals what sort of individual it takes to effect such profound change globally.
Dan is an award-winning producer and director who began his career in newspapers and magazines, ending up on staff at the Sydney Morning Herald and The Bulletin. In his TV career, he has tried to shine the light in dark corners of society, or on social issues he cares deeply about, or simply to give voice to the voiceless.
His TV credits include Bushwhacked! series 1, 2 and 3 for ABC3, which has won multiple awards, including the 2014 Asian Kids TV Show of the Year and two Logie nominations (2015 and 2016); Code of Silence for ABC, which won the 2014 Walkley Award for Best Documentary; and Brilliant Creatures for ABC & BBC, which was nominated for a Logie and an AACTA. He directed Passport To Hope for Foxtel in 2010, Pitch Battle for the ABC in 2014 and the 4-part arts series for Foxtel, The Archibald, in 2017. Food Fighter is his first feature-length documentary.

The 1928 silent French masterpiece, The Passion of the Joan of Arc will be revisited 90 years later with a contemporary live score by 4 Bangkok based musicians, Kijjaz, Yui Cello, Kota Taki and Baby’s Breath. The new experimental score will feature heavy improvisation, with traditional instruments as well as electronics, highlighting Joan’s intense internal state.
Directed by Danish Carl Theodor Dreyer featuring Renée Jeanne Falconetti as Joan with her acting widely heralded as one of the most outstanding performances in cinematic history. This film is based completely on the actual transcripts of the trials Joan of Arc had to endure after she was captured.
Beyond the historical context of the well known story of Joan of Arc, the young soldier fighting against an occupying power and her torment at the hands of religious fanatics before being burnt alive at the stake, it is a celebration of faith and the struggle against institutionalised state power. With Joan claiming to have direct spiritual access to the creator, however the religious establishment who interrogate Joan believe only they have monopolistic access to the higher power, of course their legitimacy lies in having this mandate.

Kijjaz (Kijjasak Triyanond, Kijjaz Monotone) is one of the members of a Thai indie/pop group Monotone Group and the founder of Pollen Sound, his music production team and home recording studio. Currently at Pollen Sound, he works as the music producer, composer, arranger, and also recording/mixing/mastering engineer in his music projects.
Most of his projects are mainly pop music. With monotone group, he produced and co-write the songs in Yai Monotone (Bhurich Yai Sukhumalchandr)’s album “Heavenday Afternoon” which introduces Kijjaz to the wider audiences. Currently, he is producing for artists under his company “Pollen Sound”: Singto Numchok and Hers band in which he produces, arranges, and engineers all the songs and also co-writes some of the songs.
Except from these projects, he also has special interests in new music technology, for example, computer music, computer programming for music and sound synthesis, designing sounds with analog synthesizers, and also performed some of his works in experimental music events in Thailand or combine them with some of his pop music production.
Yui-Saowakhon Muangkruan is a cellist based in Nakhonpathom, Thailand. She is known as someone who tells her story through her instrument. The Yui Cello phenomenon, as she explains, takes inspiration from society matters, other’s life experiences and her life. The text she composes unfolds like poetry while she cajoles her instrument with decisive strikes and loops, bringing out the multi-layered lyricism. Yui was invited to present her ideas at TEDx in Chiang Mai and participated in the Y2K14 International Looping Festival in Bangkok, Asian Meeting Festival 2015 in Japan, FEN 2015 in Singapore, migration music festival 2017 in Taiwan.collaboration with Koichi Shimizu for Pen-Ek Ratanaruang's latest film "Samui Song".
Electric guitarist (musical improvisation)/composer/songwriter. Japanese born in 1969. Learnt classic piano since 1974 for 10 years. Composed music since 1984 and started original songwriting since then. A major debut from Victor Entertainment (Japan), signed an exclusive artist contract in 1998. Solo career from 2003 and performed "Dub drawing space musical improvisation" about 1,500 times all over Japan. Immigrated to Thailand in 2011 and started musical activities from 2013.
Formed 2014 in Bangkok, Baby’s Breath is the solo, experimental, free improvisation project of Paponpat Weerawit. Baby's Breath, in floral language means 'purity', translated to music, it means to create melodies, harmonies and rhythms from a pure heart. Inspired by psychedelia and absurdism he expresses emotions and what is hidden inside through melodies, harmonies, rhythms, atmospheres, etc. Baby’s Breath enjoys experimenting with different musical instruments including conventional ones like guitar and saxophone as well as traditional Thai instruments such as the khim and pi nai. He has previously performed live with noise rock band Ripper Ray and Mahakunchontrisian and was also the founding member of avante garde, drone, noise outfit Acid Moon, recently Weerawit has also been proactively organising experimental music events in Bangkok bringing together seemingly disparate styles of music through Primitive Synthesis.
